ISUFST athletes shine in Nat’l ROTC Games; clinch 2 silvers, 1 bronze in arnis competition

INDANG, Cavite— Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) athletes made a remarkable showing at the Philippine ROTC Games National Finals held from August 18-24, 2024. Competing in the Arnis Men’s and Women’s categories, the ISUFST delegation secured two silver medals and one bronze, highlighting their skill and dedication.

Sophomore Bachelor of Industrial Technology (BIT) student Mark Vincent Asumbra led the charge for ISUFST, clinching silver medals in both the Non-Traditional Competition and the Padded Stick Competition (53kg below). Senior Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) standout Rhea Grace Omison added to the medal tally by earning a bronze medal in the Live Stick Competition (63kg below), showcasing the university’s prowess in the national arena.

The athletes expressed their satisfaction with their performance, emphasizing that representing ISUFST was a privilege, regardless of the competition’s outcome. They shared that the entire process, from preparation to competition, was an honor and a fulfilling experience.

Clariesol Belo, the team leader of the ISUFST delegation, extended her support and encouragement to the athletes. She affirmed, “Our athletes have shown incredible dedication and spirit, and while we celebrate their achievements today, we are committed to doing even better in the next games. This is just the beginning of more victories to come.”

ISUFST President Dr. Nordy Siason, Jr., echoed this sentiment, offering his support and pride for the team. “The success of our athletes in the ROTC Games is a testament to their hard work and determination. We are incredibly proud of them for bringing honor to ISUFST and for representing the Visayas region with such excellence,” Dr. Siason said.

Aside from Asumbra and Omison, the following also bravely represented ISUFST: Roperly Mae Bangero and Japhet Palma for the Armis Women category; Rennier Soberano for the Arnis Men’s category; Ben Araneta, Ismael Martirez, and James Kenneth Buenacosa in the Taekwondo Men’s division; and Marlie Diopenes in the Women’s division. The team is coached by Sol Denamarca, Jade Marie Dimzon, and Belo.
