Personal care and household goods suppliers should watch out for the growing integration of health technology into everyday life as shoppers increasingly focus on health care-related products with technological innovations, according to a new trends report from NielsenIQ.
The consumer market intelligence company said that last year saw a 4.1% growth in global sales revenue from health care-focused tech products, with small domestic appliances and core wearables leading the charge.
“Small domestic appliances with health care-focused features and core wearables are pivotal in this shift, helping individuals manage personal health more effectively at home,” it said.
In the small domestic appliances category, consumer goods with sleep health and mental well-being features such as wake-up lights and seasonal affective disorder lamps are gaining prominence, the report added.
“These innovations are crucial as sleep disorders become more prevalent due to sedentary lifestyles and high screen time.”
Moreover, innovative health appliances continue to drive the small appliances market. For example, the report has found growing demand for hot air fryers, which offer a healthier alternative to traditional frying and use less energy compared to a conventional microwave oven.
Similarly, electric cooking pots with steaming function, which reduce fat intake as well as preserve more vitamins and minerals better than many other cooking methods, are also performing well on the market.
“These products highlight the trend toward integrating health benefits into everyday appliances. Despite a saturated market, it helps to limit the current sales decline when products are in-line with consumer motivations, such as making it easier for consumers to maintain healthier living without significant dietary changes,” said NielsenIQ.
At the same time, core wearables are likewise experiencing growing demand from shoppers as they have become central to personal health management.
Among those catching people’s attention are smart watches and fitness trackers, which offer people extensive functionalities, from tracking physical activity and monitoring vital signs to analyzing sleep patterns.
“These devices offer real-time feedback and a highly convenient way to track and optimize their daily holistic health routines and personal fitness goals,” said the report.
“Looking ahead, the integration of health technology into everyday life will only deepen. Wearables and other health innovations are becoming more advanced, user-friendly, and cost efficient, enabling more personalized health management with real-time, at-home monitoring that frees users from unnecessary trips to their doctor. The focus is shifting toward multifunctional devices that offer comprehensive health monitoring and support.”
