CITY OF MALOLOS- Where, indeed, is Jocelynang Baliwag?
This is the question that wants to be answered by the theatrical play presented by the Dulaang Filipino Sining Bulakenyo “Ang Awit ng Dalagang Marmol” that will be on the stage of Nicanor Abelardo Auditorium inside the Hiyas ng Bulacan Cultural Center in this city from September 9 to 12.
Jocelynang Baliwag also known as the Kundiman ng Himagsikan, a popular and controversial song during the Spanish regime in the Philippines, is said to be about a certain Bulakenya named Maria Josefa Tiongson y Lara.
Over time, the song’s romantic verses were also interpreted as a symbolic expression of the love of the Filipinos to the country.
Governor Daniel R. Fernando believes that art has always been a powerful tool in the Philippines’ battle for independence.
“Noong mga panahong iyon, ginamit ang awiting ito upang maging inspirasyon ng mga rebolusyunaryo sa kanilang paglaban para sa ating kalayaan. Ngayon, gagamitin natin ang sining na ito upang ipaalala sa ating mga kalalawigan ang kabayanihan ng ating kapwa Pilipino na nag-alay ng buhay para sa ating kasarinlan,” the governor said.
The DFSB: Ang Awit ng Dalagang Marmol can be watched from September 9 to 12, with schedules at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 6:00 pm.
