Manila, Philippines – April 11, 2025 – The Auto Body Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (ABMAP), in coordination with the Philippine Parts Makers Association (PPMA), held a high-level meeting with Department of Transportation Secretary Vivencio “Vince” Dizon and Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Cristina A. Roque to express full support for the Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP). The meeting took place at the DTI Secretary’s office and aimed to strengthen the collaboration between government and the local manufacturing industry to push forward the modernization of the country’s public transport system.

Representing the government were DTI Secretary Cristina Roque and DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon, joined by Assistant Secretary Dioscoro “Jojo” Reyes, Assistant Secretary Michelle “Mich” De Vera, Chief of Staff Allan Yap, and PMO Staff Zion Yuson. From the private sector, the meeting was attended by PPMA President Ferdinand Raquelsantos, ABMAP President Bimbo Mills, ABMAP officer Rommel Juan, PPMA officer Allen Rufo, and ABMAP Executive Director Edgar Manuel.

During the discussion, ABMAP highlighted how the local body manufacturing industry is ready and capable to contribute meaningfully to the success of the PTMP by producing world-class, locally built modern PUVs. The group also shared constructive suggestions on how to overcome current pain points in the program, such as easing access to financing for transport operators, simplifying regulatory processes, and ensuring consistency in design and technical standards.

“ABMAP stands ready to be a strong partner in the government’s drive to modernize our public transportation system. With the right support, local manufacturers can help deliver world-class modern PUVs that are safe, efficient, and proudly Filipino-made,” said Bimbo Mills, President of ABMAP. “We appreciate the openness and proactive stance of Secretaries Dizon and Roque in working with us to address the challenges of PTMP.”

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that the public transport modernization initiative becomes inclusive, efficient, and truly beneficial to Filipino commuters and industry players alike.
