MANILA—Officials of Bulacan joined Metro Manila and Pampanga top chief executives in a ceremonial signing with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of the billion-worth North South Commuter Railway (NSCR) train project in Malacanang recently.
Present were City of Malolos Mayor Atty. Christian Natividad, City of Meycauayan Mayor Atty. Henry Villarica, Guiguinto Mayor Atty. Agatha Paula Cruz and Calumpit Mayor Lem Faustino and Marilao Mayor Henry Lutao.
House Speaker Congressman Martin Romualdez, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian also signified their excitement and support to the project for the development and economic progress it is expected to pour in to their respective cities.
NSCR traverses from Laguna to Clark International Airport. Its phirst pahse from Tutuban in Manila passes through the MacArthur highway’s old Philippine National Railways along Valenzuela City, Meycauayan City, Marilao, Bocaue, Balagtas, Guiguinto, Malolos, Calumpit in Bulacan and Apalit, San Fernando and Mabalacat in Pampanga.
The project was revived and was given a new name during the Duterte administration. It was North Rail project during the term of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo but was halted when late former President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino succeeded her.
