CITY OF MALOLOS – In celebration of the annual Philippines’ Earth Day on April 22nd, the Provincial Government of Bulacan has rallied all its offices and provincial hospitals to get their hands dirty in the name of sustainability and climate consciousness.
Employees are encouraged to join forces in activities that support this year’s Earth Day theme, “Our Power, Our Planet”, focusing on the shift to renewable energy sources for a greener and safer future.
The Waste Management and Pollution Control Division of Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO), along with United Pulp and Paper Co., Inc. and CENRO Malolos, spearheaded a massive clean-up drive along MacArthur Highway, ridding the area of nearly 60 sacks of mixed waste. They even took the time to educate students and food stall vendors at the Mini Forest in the PGB Compound on the importance of environmental awareness and compliance with provincial ordinances.
Meanwhile, another group took on the challenge of cleaning up various barangays in Guiguinto, including Tuktukan, Ilang-Ilang, Tabang, and Poblacion.
The Enforcement Division of BENRO, in collaboration with MENRO San Miguel and the Bulacan Youth for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (BYDRRM), tackled hazardous waste removal at Salangan Dam in San Miguel. They also made sure to tidy up the riverbanks of Poblacion in Santa Maria.
Accordingly, Proclamation No. 1481, series of 2008, declared April 22 as Philippines’ Earth Day in recognition of the urgent need to raise public consciousness about climate change, resource conservation, and environmental sustainability.
