BASEY, SAMAR—Residents were treated with free medical and dental services, beauty and wellness care including free medicines, food delicacy cooking demonstration and other social benefits in the Center for Agirculture and Development (CARD) Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (MRI) Kaunlaran caravan here on Friday.
More than 700 CARD MRI members and clients trooped to Basey 1 Central Elementary School and benefitted from the company’s medical and dental mission, ophthalmology services, medicines, massage,pedicure and manicure, hair cut, marriage and wedding ceremony encouragements and briefings on insurance benefits.
Feeding activities also benefitted children and family members.
Expert makers of chocolate moron, a delicacy both of Tacloban City and Samar demonstrate the cooking of their famous chocolate sweets made out of locally-sourced tablea.
Leslie Banayo, marketing manager of CARD Inc. and Kaunlaran caravan coordinator said the activity is just one way of bringing to the communities basic health and social need support parallel to the advocacy of their company.
Banayo said the Samar caravan is the fourth for this year. They held the first one in Dimasalang, Masbate in February, Butuan City, Agusan del Norte in April and in Capalong, Davao in May.
She told NEWS CORE they target to conduct four more Kaunlaran caravan this second half of the year so that more and more communities will be provided with basic social needs.
CARD MRI, a social development micro-finance company which helps people in the far-flung communities and the countryside put up their own livelihoods and earnings and to become self-sustaining community members.
Beneficiaries to the caravan were members and their families and even non-members.
Cyrene Lubigan, deputy director of CARD MRI Publishing House said the ideals and the primary advocacy of their firm is to address poverty both in the urban areas and in the countryside by providing support for micro-financing.
There are now more than 9 million members and clients CARD MRI has been serving in different parts of the country. CARD MRI was established in 1986 with the goal to help Filipinos combat poverty through their own perseverance and will to build their own businesses and livelhood.
In 2007, CARD MRI has started a technology and expertise transfer to neighboring countries in South East Asia—Myanmar, Infonesia, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Hongkong to also help the underprivileged urban communities and those in the countryside start and hone their own respective businesses and industries.
