Comelec gun ban yields 103 firearms in Central Luzon

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga—Central Luzon police seized a total of 103 firearms in its 8,839 Commission on Election (Comelec) gun ban checkpoints including illegal drug operations and other anti-criminality operations in the seven provinces and two major cities innthe region, reports released by the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO-3) based in this camp said. 

PRO-3 Director Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said the firearms were seized from January 12-30 more than first two weeks period of the enforcement of the gun ban for the May 12 midterm election. 

Eleven guns were seized in Bataan, 22 from Bulacan, 21 in Nueva Ecija, 25 in Pampanga, 9 in Tarlac and 8 in Zambales while there were 2 in Angeles City and 5 in Olongapo City. A hand grenade was also seized. 

Accorodng to Fajardo, the weapons were gathered from 8,839 Comelec checkpoints, buy-bust operations on loose firearms, buy-bust operations on illegal drugs, poloce response operations and during Oplan Sita, Oplan Bakal and during implementation of arrest warrant.

The checkpoints are continuously being implemented by the region 3 police units in all  the towns and cities in the region. 

From the 103 firearms, Fajardo said 56 are revolvers, one is Calibre 50, eleven are Calibre .45 and there were 14 9MM, 2 rifles and 19 others. 

According to the police director, the 103 firearms were seized from 12 civilians in Bataan, 1 security guard and 22 civilians in Bulacan, 1 member of the military and one security giard and 19 civilians in Nueva Ecija, 2 security guards and 25 civilians in Pampanga, 8 civilians in Tarlac, 9 civilians in Zambales, 1 civilian im Angeles City and 5 civilians in Olongapo City.
