CITY OF MALOLOS—Officials and residents released to the Bulacan ocean shore that is part of Manila Bay, a sea turtle recovered while trapped in a fisher folk’s net on Saturday.
Innocencio Villena, village chair of Bagna said on Monday that they released the 42 kilos weight and 32 centimeter (cm) long tortoise to the Manila bay waters just after the city environment and natural office of Malolos found it healthy and free from any wounds.
Fisher folks of Bagna found the turtle trapped inside a net in the boundary of Bagna and Pamarawan at about 8:00 in the morning. They immediately brought it to the city environment and natural resources office for disposition.
Bearing no wounds that needed to be treated and prevent its return to the waters, Villena and the fisher folks released them immediately in Pamarawan. Pamarawan is an island village adjacent to Bagna. It is situated at the mouth or the entry point of the Manila Bay.
According to Villena, fisher folks in Pamarawan could have fished or found the sea turtle and released it to the ocean but was accidentally caught by the fisher folks net and has been trapped there.
Villena said they brought the tortoise in the middle of the Pamarawan waters to make sure it can not reach back again to the fishing grounds of the residents where nets and traps are installed.
