PULILAN, Bulacan—Gov. Daniel Fernando assures Pulilan residents of the Bulacan provincial government’s unrelentless efforts to mitigate flooding in the province as he continues to distribute relief goods to typhoon-Carina hit folks on Thursday.
Fernando joined by Vice Gov. Alexis Castro, Board Member Mina Fermin, Pulilan Mayor Maritz Ochoa-Montejo, Bulacan Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer and Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer Manuel Lukban Jr. provided support food packs to about 2,000 typhoon Carina victims in Barangays Sta. Perregrina, Balataong B and Penabatan.
According to the governor, the Mega Dike which will be a concretized sea wall along the coastal area from Metro Manila and Bataan will prevent high tide from Manila Bay waters to enter and penetrate low-lying barangays in the coastal towns of City of Malolos, Hagonoy, Paombong, Bulakan and Obando.
The structure which ia now approved and funded by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) will be among the long awaited solution to help abate the devastating flood in the coastal areas of Bulacan.
Another major solution, according to the province chief executive is the now ongoing construction of the Bayabas dam in San Miguel-Dona Remedios Trinidad (DRT) town which will catch the heavy downpour of rains in the mountainous areas or in the eastern part of the province that will cascade to low lying areas and contribute to flooding.
The governor urged his fellow Bulakenyos to keep their strong faith that the province will overcome the calamitiea brought by typhoons and rains and asked them to continue praying and thanking God for the continued blessings despite the catastrophes.
Fernando expressed concern that while they are distributing food packs for typhoon Carina victims last July, typhoon Kristine had battered many provinces and regions in Luzon in October and worse, he said, typhoons Nika, Marce had also affected the country early this month while super typhoon Pepito is seen to hit Luzon and Visayas areas over the weekend.
Castro said the Department of Social Welfare and Developmemt (DSWD) and the Bulacan provincial government are providing them with such food packs to make them feel the support of the national government and their local government institutions especially in time of calamities and disasters.
