CITY OF MALOLOS—Mayor Christian Natividad is keen in imposing a fishing ban in the waters of Malolos due to reports that the oil spill in Bataan has reached Bulacan.

Gov. Daniel Fernando confirmed to Preaident Marcos in a post typhoon Carina assesment briefing at the Capitol on Saturday that the spill has now affected the coastal areas of Pamarawan in City of Malolos and the rest of the Manila Bay areas in Bulacan.

Natividad said the fishing ban is necessary to ensure the safety of everyone from oil contamibated aqua products from Bulacan waters.

Pamarawan is the largest coastal barangay in Malolos with almost all of its more than 3.000 population engaged in fishing industry. The villages of Namayan, Atlag, Caliligawan are other coastal villages in the city.

Randy Santiago, leader of a fisher grouo in adjacent Paombong town on Sunday also echoed reports of the presence of the industrial substance in Bulacan waters.

Hagonoy, Bulakan, Obando are also coastal areas of Bulacan.

The Philippine Coast Guard on Saturday said that the oil from the sunken Motor Tanker (MT) Terra Nova started to leak into Manila Bay and is now estimated to stretch between 12 to 14 kilometers across the bay.

The MT Terra Nova, carrying 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel capsized and eventually sank some seven kilometers east of Lamao Point in Limay, Bataan on Thursday morning.
