Man seeking financial help from kin of political bet yields gun and grenade

SAN RAFAEL, Bulacan—Police arrested a 40-year old man who yielded a firearm and a grenade while asking for financial help inside the compound of a businessman and father of a political candidate in this town on Saturday.

Bulacan Police Director Col. Satur Ediong identified the arrested as Lloyd Madulid, from Plaridel town.

Madulid is now inside the municipal jail and facing charges of Violation of RA10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and Violation of RA 9516 or the Illegal Possession of Explosives and Trespass to Dwelling that were filed against him on Monday before the Bulacan Prosecutor’s Office satellite office in this town.

Rommel Racal, 43, nephew of Jonito Racal, 54, a businessman from Barangay Tukod, filed the complaints based on a special power of attorney issued to him by his uncle.

Jadd Racal, 25, also a businessman and son of the eldest Racal is a sixth district congressional candidate in the May 2025 elections.

Madulid, according to the complainant was on board his motorcycle at about 2:40 p.m. on Saturday when he suddenly approached the vicinity of the house of his uncle and started looking for him. The staff and attendants in the house then approached him and asked about his concern.

According to Racal, he saw and heard Madulid then replied and said that he would ask for some financial help for the hospitalization and medication needs of his mother who had been in comatose in a hospital. However, they all began to earn suspicion after Madulid then started asking how many of them reside in the said house and if there are security men detailed in the place.

Racal then immediately informed his uncle about the actuation of Madulid. The family then called and requested the presence and help of Barangay Tukod Councilor Erwin Calderon who later called the police.

OIC Police Chief of San Rafael, PLT Col. Eulogio Lamqui III said his men including elements from the Regional Mobile Force Command 3 who were conducting patrolling and Oplan Sita near the area seized a .38 calibre revolver firearm including ammunition from Madulid.

Also, Lamqui said elements from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Group—Provincial Explosives Ordinance Division and Canine Unit (EOD-PECU) seized a hand grenade from the suspect.

The seized hand grenade, firearm and ammunition including the motorcycle of the suspect were confiscated by the police as evidence.
