Missing fisherman found dead

CITY OF MALOLOS—The missing fisherman in Obando town was found dead on Friday, near the coastal waters of Navotas, Metro Manila, authorties said. 

In a Saturday report of the Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), the body of Jerry Lacaña, 25, who remained missing following the rescue of his nine companions was found floating in Salambao river in Obando, near Navotas waters at about 2:30 pm. 

The nine others, PDRRMO chief Manuel Lukban Jr.  said were rescued early during the day by Bulacan Rescue teams and Philippine Coast Guard crew members assigned in Navotas, Metro Manila and other rescue personnel from Obando police and fire stations. They were identified as Mirador Añonuevo, John Christian Juat, Harry Añonuevo, Lawrence Mendoza, Ryan Carlo Valeriano, Ricardo Joseph, John Lennon Bayumbon, Nevil Manalaysay and Angelito R. Natividad Jr., all from Barangay Binuangan. 

Their boat capsized on Thursday a day after they sailed for a day’s cache amidst warning of strong current of waters because of typhoon Kristine. 

The rescue teams also rescued on Friday morning Edison Amasan and Dicky Bulan, both fishermen from Limay, Bataan which boat also capsized because of the strong current of waters due to the typhoon. 

Fifty four barangays in 12 towns and cities in Bulacan—Hagonoy, Guguinto, San Miguel, Bocaue, City of San Jose del Monte, Obando, Bulakan, Marilao, Paombong, Balagtas, Calumpit and City of Malolos had bewn affected of up to 5 ft. flood water. 

Barangay Matungao in Bulakan town recorded a 5 ft. level of flood water.

Lukban said, other than heavy down pour, high tide and Ipo and Bustos dam releases also contributed to the flooding. 

Bulacan recorded nearly 57-million worth of damages—close to P48-million in 1,857 hectres rice production of 1,539 farmers; nearly P228,000 worth of damages to 2.14 hectares of vegetable plantations of 22 farmers; P340,000 worth of 11.75 hectares of corn of 12 farmers and P7.8 million worth of damages to almost 271 hectares of fishponds owned by 118 fishpond operators. 

Because of the floods. 1,407 individuals from 406 families in City of Malolos and City of Meycauayan, Calumpit, Obando and Balagtas towns were evacuated to 16 evacuation centers due to up to 5 ft. level of flood waters.
