CITY OF MALOLOS—San Miguel Corporation’s (SMC) brewery in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga emerged as champion in the recently held company Fire Brigade Exhibition at the plant’s huge open grounds on May 12.
The emergency response volunteer team (ERT) of SMC San Fernando Brewery recorded 1.21 seconds response time beating fourteen other conglomerate’s teams in the packaging, fuel, infrastructure, food, logistics and bulk water.
The exercise involves the connection of disassembled fire hoses and firing at mock targets with pressurized water and putting out fire with fire extinguishers.
City of San Fernando Bureau of Fire Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Senior Fire Inspector Jackie Lou Calayag commended SMC’s own fire response drill as she recognized the value of emergency rescue teams being their partners and multiplier forces.
The fire response drill is a project of the SMC Safety Council.
Calayag said the SMC San Fernando ERT has helped them in five fire incidents just in March, the largest of which was in Barangay Dolores and had been their partner in their fire responses in the city.
Dolores barangay chairman Allan Patio awarded the Brewery’s ERT with a plaque of appreciation for being in the frontline of protection and defense of their people and millions worth of properties from fire incidents in their place. Barangay Dolores has the most number of commercial establishments, especially banks.
As a major name carrier of the company, the San Fernando plant is one of the oldest facilities of the country’s largest beer giant.
