CITY OF MALOLOS–Barangay COVID-19 front liner leaders who are also innovators of services in the grassroots were given awards and recognition during Bulacan’s 21st Gawad Galing Barangay awards ceremony here on Wednesday.

Senator Bong Go called the more than 40,000 barangay officials in the country as among the front liners at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic who really deserve due honor and recognition. 

Go hails Bulacan’s Gawad Galing Barangay program which particularly recognize this year the roles of barangay officials in serving and protecting their constituents at the height of the 2020 and 2021 pandemic. He said Bulacan officials led by Gov. Daniel Fernando is on the right track giving these grassroot officials the due recognition.

According to the senator,  he salutes the good values, leadership and sacrifices of the barangay captains, the kagawad down to the sangguniang kabataan and the barangay tanod that’s why he filed the magna carta for barangay officials before the senate for their welfare and protection.

“Isa sila sa ating mga major front liners lalo na noong panahon ng pandemic. Sila qng una at laging nakaharap sa tao.  Sila ang namahala sa vaccination. Kaya tama lang ang ginagawa ng ating gobernador na kilalanin dila. Nauunawaan natin ang hirap ng trabaho ng mga barangay leaders natin kaya lahat ng panukala makakatulong sa kanila ay isusulong natin,” Go told reporters in an interview.

Fernando said the barangay officials awarded are their all year round partners and first line of government workers in the grassroot level. 

Fernando said the recognition raises the morals of the deserving performing leaders and also inspire the non performers to shine in their own time. “Sila ang unang humaharap sa problema. Iyon naman mga non-performers na ma-inspire to also do better. So that they will know may sumusunod sa kanilang mga gawain nila. Magsipag pa magsikap pa sila”. 

Vice Gov. Alex Castro said a separate award for three termer barangay captains and kagawad is also eyed to be given next. 

Barangay Captain Ma. Lourdes San Andres of Loma De Gato, Marilao was awarded the “Natatanging Barangay Captain” for her efforts and hard work in putting up thee additional health centers at the height of the pandemic that address the needs of her constituents particularly the vaccination program of the government.

Edwin Lopez of Barangay Lumang Bayan, Plaridel town was awarded the “Natatanging Barangay Tanod” award for his successful role as police force multiier in going after criminal groups and maintaining peace and order in their community. ‘”Natatanging Kagawad” was awarded to Johnny Marcelo of Barangay Agnaya, Plaridel who spearheaded the anti flooding projects including smooth traffic measures and covered court. 

Awards were also given to outstanding mother leaders, health workers, training and employment coordinator, volunteer group, barangay secretary, barangay treasurer, trailblazers and best barangay programs and projects.
