MANILA, Philippines—A supposed main card boxing match today upsets the people as acting Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte was unable to come for his supposed boxing charity match against Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Nicolas Torre III.

Duterte’s no show however is already speculated as videos of him aboard an economic flight going to Singapore surfaced on the internet two days earlier.

The “Boxing for a Cause: Laban Para sa Nasalanta” event at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum still materialized today. However, thousands of enthusiasts at the venue and those watching online were dismayed as Mayor Duterte did not come.

Fortunately, the match did not turn into total failure as the set charity boxing match for the typhoon victims amasses at least P20 Million in form of in-kind donations, cash money from sponsors and from boxing tickets.

All the proceeds from the event will be for the benefit of the typhoon and flood victims, according to PNP.

“Pag naloko mo ako ng isang beses shame on you, pag naloko mo ako ng dalawang beses shame on me,” Torre said after the event when he was asked if Duterte will ask for a rematch these coming days.

He berated Duterte and his supporters for fooling the people and said that he is not one of those they can be fooled.

CITY OF MALOLOS—For trying fo catch a fish in a flooded rice field in Calumpit town on Friday, a construction worker was drowned.

Manuel Lukban Jr., head of the Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) identified the victim as Christian Grabahim.

Grabahim who has a job in the town and his fellow workers went to fish at the middle of a rice field in Barangay Pungo at about 4 p.m. when he accidentally slipped and fell into a deep portion of the rice field.

His friends tried saving him but failed to locate him down in the waters. They then immediately sought the help of the Calumpit Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO).

Enriquito Santiago Jr., MDRRMO head said his rescue team with the help of Philippine Coast Guard members rushed to the area to rescue Grabahim.

He said they arrived in the place before 5 p.m. but failed to save the victim. The middle of the rice field is more than 4ft. flooded and with a strong current of flood waters, Santiago also said.

They then only found his body and retrieved it. The rescuers were just in the nearby area distributing relief goods to flooded residents.

NLEX further strengthens flood control efforts

0

As part of its bid to continually ensure the safety and mobility of its motorists even in unfavorable weather conditions, NLEX Corporation implements proactive risk-mitigation efforts. These include the regular cleaning of drainage systems and culverts, roadside clearing, constant monitoring of river water levels, bridge inspections and mitigation works, ensuring the availability and readiness of water trucks and other dewatering equipment, and organizing an inter-agency flood mitigation forum to strengthen the preparedness of host and neighboring communities in maintaining clear waterways.

However, despite its efforts, the unprecedented rainfall brought by the intensified Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), coupled with the overflow of La Mesa Dam, caused flooding in the NLEX Balintawak Cloverleaf, Valenzuela, and Meycauayan areas.

In response, NLEX ramps up its multi-layered flood control defense to enhance protection against flooding along its expressway network.

“We are implementing immediate measures in response to the recent flooding to ensure the safety of our motorists and to help reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future. We are also working with relevant authorities to explore possible long-term solutions, including our offer to upgrade bridges, adopt and rehabilitate rivers and creeks that traverse NLEX. These initiatives are part of our continued commitment to providing safe and passable expressways, especially during severe weather conditions,” said NLEX Corporation Officer-In-Charge and Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation Chief Finance Officer, Luis S. Reñon.

As part of its response efforts, the tollway company immediately conducted the removal of garbage accumulated from overflowing rivers and creeks. Drainage systems were rapidly cleared, and inspections of rivers and creeks used as outfalls for water from expressway pumping stations were carried out to ensure proper flow and function. Road patching works are also underway along the expressways to ensure the safety of our motorists. Permanent pavement repairs will be conducted once weather conditions become favorable.

To further support these efforts, vacuum trucks have been deployed for canal declogging and placed on standby in key locations, such as Balintawak, Paso de Blas, and Tulaoc, to help reduce water accumulation.

At the same time, NLEX is closely monitoring river water levels and conducting structural inspections of bridges, especially the Pasig-Potrero Bridge, to ensure the integrity of infrastructure amid rising water levels.

Rescue boats have also been made available to deliver relief assistance to nearby communities and serve as an alternative means of transportation for stranded individuals, if necessary.

“This is the time when we really need to bring out all the help and solutions we can. We’ve tapped our sister companies in the MVP group, such as Maynilad and Meralco, for assistance with vacuum trucks and rescue boats, and we’re truly grateful for their support. Working together is key to strengthening our flood defense and ensuring everyone’s safety,” added Reñon.

NLEX Corporation also reminds the public that its social media pages are active 24/7 for real-time traffic advisories and announcements. Motorists may also reach customer service through hotline 1-35000 or via Facebook and X (@NLEXexpressways), for any assistance they may need.

NLEX Corporation is a subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the toll road arm of the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC).

In the next stage of its journey, The Odyssey 2.0 comes in three romancing colors, signifying the revival of intellect and art lost during the dark ages. First, the white in lacquer finish represents enlightenment – of the emergence from the dark and pureness from divine inspiration. It was the color of revelation, worn by angels and imagined by thinkers as light breaking through ignorance. The second color of burgundy represents the mind – engaged in deep thought and passion to will and reason. A color worn by thinkers and magistrates, it embodied depth and cultivated wisdom.

The third color peach-salmon represents the hand – celebrating the power of the flesh to work and create. It symbolized the act of making, where the hand meets art in warm, living color.

The burgundy and peach-salmon colors are both made in a sunburst finish, symbolic of the boom of creativity that comes from the unity of mind and body.

Made for the everyday, the Odyssey 2.0 blends timeless design with modern craftsmanship. A top grade 316L stainless steel case in a 38mm diameter with brushed finish offers robustness and wearability on any occasion or activity. A date complication at the 3:00 position means you never lose touch of day. BGW9-lumed applied indices adds a different character at night, and a unique take for each of the colors.

Baste Duterte vs PNP Chief Torre Boxing Match on Sunday, July 27

0

MANILA, Philippines—Acting Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte, son of former President Rodrigo Duterte who is now in custody of International Criminal Court (ICC) in Hague, Netherlands lambasted and dared Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III to a slugfest.

Duterte said that General Torre is just brave because of his power and position but he is sure that he beat him when it comes to brawl or fistfight.

“Do not worry Mr. Torre sanay na ako sa iyo. Kase matapang ka lang naman kase you have the position eh pero kung suntukan tayo eh alam kong kaya kita” Duterte said.

Torre accepted the challenge and proposed a boxing charity match at Araneta Coliseum. “Maybe we can use this moment or this opportunity to raise funds, well, a charity boxing match, this coming Sunday in Araneta with 12 rounds bout so we can raise a lot of money. Torre said.

Videos of General Torre and Acting Mayor Dutere undergoing training and sparring sessions for the said upcoming fight have surfaced in the internet.

Torre now wants to host the boxing match at Rizal Memorial Coliseum on July 27, Sunday, saying he is old, and his punches are weak but hopes that charity boxing match will still commence on the said date, to help the typhoon and flood victims for the fund raising fight.

“Mapansin niyo eh, matanda na tayo at a sabi nga ng trainer ko mahina na nga ang hangin kaya wala nang diin ang mga suntok” Torre said.

Torre added that there are already sponsors for the coming fight.

Duterte responded with his own condition that President Bongbong Marcos and all elected officials undergo hair follicle drug test first before he accept the Charity Boxing Match.

People around the world still hopes the boxing fight materializes this coming Sunday.
