GUIGUINTO, Bulacan—Mayor Agatha Paula “Agay” Cruz strikingly marks her first year in office on Saturday, July 1 as she opens her first “Mayor’s Cup 2023,” Inter-Barangay Basketball and Volleyball League in the town.

About 300 youth players from all the 14 barangays joined the opening parade shortly before the competition officially kicked off inside the Guiguinto Municipal Athletic and Cultural Center (GMACC).

Cruz said the ball game competitions are just one of the many programs she is implementing and bringing down to the youth sector as she aims Guiguinto to be the home of blissful, disciplined, with good traits and kind attitude citizens who can become role models particularly among the generation, (gen) Z.

“Gagawin natin na ang Bayan ng Guiguinto ay isang lugar kung saan masaya ang ating mga mamamayan, ang ating mga kabataan, disiplinado, mahusay, magaganda ang kalooban upang sila ay tularan ng iba pang mga kabataan sa iba’t ibang lugar,” the mayor said.

The mayor congratulated the members of each of the 14 teams for their participation as she also encouraged them to continue reaching and achieving their aspirations and goals in life.

She also expressed her gratitude to all the barangay captains of the 14 barangays for their full participation and support which she said is the key to the success of the project.

Fifth District Rep. Ambrosio Cruz Jr. graced the event and expressed his support to the league. He said the very active support and participation of all the municipal and barangay officials in the town had once again proved the unity of the people of the town under the “One Guiguinto” thrust.

The town of Guiguinto now can fully feel and experience its government working further at its best for them, the congressman added.

He assured his constituents of his continuous social and health programs and projects in the town and the whole of the fifth district.

Vice Mayor Banjo Estrella also renders inspirational messages to the players and hails them as role models in focusing on sports rather than resorting to illegal drugs.

The first year in office of the new mayor is a back to back celebration. On Thursday, June 27, the mayor launched the “Project Bahaghari” Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) search for “Reyna ng Bahaghari 2023”.

The activity gives honor and recognition to third sex community during the last week of June’s World’s Pride Month. All the 14 barangays also participated.
