QUEZON CITY—On its 61st anniversary and 28th edition of the Community Press Awards held at Eastwood Richmonde Hotel, the Philippine Press Institute (PPI), also known as the national association of newspapers and considered as the oldest professional media organization for print, has added another feather to its cap as.its newest partner MEGAWORLD Hotels and Resorts officially announced two more categories that will be added in the roster of awards.

In his video message towards the end of the awarding ceremomies on June 28, Harold Brian Geronimo, MEGAWORLD’s Vice-President and
Head for Public Relations and Media Affairs, declared that it will fund two special categpies: Best Reporting on Sustainable Tourism and Best Reporting on Livable Community. These two are addition to the current weekly and daily categories supported by PPI’s principal and institutional partner, the multi-awarded mining company Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC).

As the awards program expands, it gives opportunity for PPI members to compete in more categories. “It democratizes the program while keeping its integrity intact. Member-newspapers can also expand their coverage and readership,” says Ariel Sebellino, PPI’s executive director and head of training operations and special projects.

The added recognition will take effect in the next season of the Community Press Awards, the only one of its kind in the country that recognizes excellence in community journalism.
