BOCAUE, Bulacan-Deputy House Speaker Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) party list Representative and JIL founder and president Bro. Eddie Villanueva said here on Saturday that Filipino youth became disrespectful of their parents and focused only on material things because of the removal of the subject Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC).
Villanueva boasted that the restoration of GMRC in the Department of Education curriculum which everyone hopes will bring back the good values of the youth is among CIBAC’s top landmark registration under his term.
Speaking to the media after he met nearly 1,000 leaders of different Christian groups in Bulacan at JIL College here, Villanueva said children and teenagers were no longer respectful to their parents and the elders and became materialistic as a result of the removal of GMRC subject.
“The Filipino children became more stubborn and disrespectful to their parents and only pay attention to the material things they can gain,” (naging suwail sa magulang ang mga kabataan dahil inalis ang subject na GMRC, naging makasarili sila at ang inintindi lang ay mga materyal na bagay), he said.
Villanueva said there are many cases that officers and members of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) are even more corrupt.
Contrary to Japan he said, children were purely taught of morale values, dignity, integrity and honor until Grade III before they were taught of academic subjects.
Villanueva, who is the House Deputy Speaker for Good Governance and Moral Uprightness said with the restoration of the GMRC, they expect the children to return to the old ways of being obedient, respectful, courteous, honest and not selfish and materialistic.
GMRC was removed in 2013 upon implementation of the K-12 curriculum.
Under Republic Act 11476 signed into law by Pres. Duterte in 2020, GMRC will be taught in grade 1-6 as a separate subject.Values Education (VE) will be taught in Grades 7 to 10 as a separate subject with the same time allotment as other core subjects.
Villanueva said other than this, CIBAC also helped legislate the Doctor Para sa Bayan law which provides free education for medicine students in all the regions in the country.
CIBAC, he added is key to the passage into law of several pro workers and several other legislations of Sen. Joel Villanueva benefitting different sectors.
