Good luck sainung lahat ipagsawalang bahal niu lang magugulat kau, sasabog nalang kau jan. Sunog. Sunugin ang Menses. Gud lucksainyo bukas. Madami kayo may klase bukas madami kayo mamamatay. Pasasabugin namin ang Meneses susunugin kayong buhay damay damay to”.

Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Mina F. Pangandaman

MANILA—Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary and Philippine Open Government Partnership (PH-OGP) Chairperson Amenah F. Pangandaman led the successful launch of OGPinas!, a national advocacy campaign on open government, in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) today, January 24, coinciding with the 5th BARMM Founding Anniversary week.

Now in its second year, OGPinas! aims to raise awareness about the PH-OGP, especially at the local level; provide avenues and more channels of communication for government-civil society partnerships; and ultimately, strengthen public participation in policy-making and governance in the country.

“Hindi lamang po dahil ako ay isang Mindanaoan ngunit dahil na rin sa aking mga personal na karanasan at pakikisalamuha sa ating mga kapatid dito sa BARMM, alam ko pong napakalaki ng ating pagpapahalaga sa good governance,” Secretary Pangandaman told the open government champions in attendance at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex in Cotabato City.

Showing the Bangsamoro Government’s full support and commitment to the open government cause, BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim, Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education Minister and Intergovernmental Relations Body Co-Chair Mohagher Iqbal, Ministry of Finance, and Budget and Management Minister Ubaida Pacasem, Ministry of the Interior and Local Government Minister Sha Elijah Dumama-Alba, Cotabato City Mayor Mohammad Ali “Bruce” Matabalao, together with participants from different sectors of society were also present at the event. These include the development partners of BARMM and members of the Non-Government Sector represented by Mr. Zalave Dinas of the Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society and Executive Director Rhadzni Taalim of the Bangsamoro Development Agency.

“As we launch the national government’s OGPinas!, let us all renew our commitment to promoting transparency and accountability to empower the Bangsamoro people,” BARMM Chief Minister Ebrahim said.

True to her commitment to empowering her fellow Mindanaoans, the Budget Secretary likewise addressed around 700 local budget officers and Public Financial Management (PFM) practitioners from various provinces across Region XII for the PFM Competency Program for Local Government Units held in General Santos City earlier today.

Secretary Pangandaman was joined by Undersecretaries Wilford Will L. Wong and Margaux V. Salcedo, Assistant Secretary Rolando U. Toledo, RO XII Director Akmad J. Usman, and Advocacy, Communications and Training Service Director Diana C. Camacho-Mercado in the Cotabato leg of OGPinas!, which was held in collaboration with DBM Regional Office XII and the Bangsamoro Government.

RSA fetes Filipino athletes, says Paris breakthrough possible

0

Longtime sports patron Ramon S. Ang believes the country is geared to win more golds in the coming Paris Olympics as he paid tribute to all Filipino athletes, particularly those who were honored during the recent Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Awards.

Ang, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President and Chief Executive Officer, received his second PSA Executive of the Year award and this time, he shared it with Metro Pacific Investments Corporation  (MPIC) Chairman and President Manny V. Pangilinan as their partnership paved the way for the Asiad basketball gold.

He said the upcoming OIympiad will mark the 100th year of Philippines’ participation as the country looks to replicate the feat of gold-winning weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz in the Tokyo Games.

“Everything is possible when all the country’s stakeholders work together. It was just three years ago when Hidilyn Diaz shone in Tokyo for our first gold in the Olympics. And just last year, we grabbed the Asian Games gold in basketball that eluded us for 60 years. So I think another breakthrough is possible,” Ang said.

“That gold medal was the result of the hard work and effort of not just the players and coaching staff, but most especially, MVP himself. The Gilas Pilipinas program is really his brainchild, and without his vision, commitment, and patriotism to see the program through all these years, we probably would not have a champion Gilas team,” Ang said.

“We are proud to have been given the opportunity to be part of it, and we thank MVP for lifting Philippine basketball to greater heights,” he added.

At the invitation of Pangilinan, Ang supported the country’s successful co-hosting of the FIBA Basketball World Cup, when Philippine team shared the spotlight with the world’s best basketball teams.

“I thank the PSA for the honor and dedicate it to the Gilas Pilipinas team who worked so hard to bring home the gold medal in the face of tough odds,” Ang, who was first conferred with the PSA Executive of the Year Award in 2017, said.

He added: “ I hope the amazing feat of Philippine basketball team will also inspire our athletes to go for more gold medals in Paris.”

Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena led those who were feted during the annual awards conducted by the country’s oldest sportswriting organization.

Also honored were Philippine Women’s Football team Filipinas, Asian Games gold medalists Meggie Ochoa and Annie Ramirez June Mar Fajardo (Mr. Basketball), Tots Carlos (Ms. Volleyball), Sarina Bolden (Ms. Football), and Alex Eala (Ms. Tennis).

To honor the country’s Olympic medal winners in Tokyo, Ang provided P22 million in incentives, including P10 million to weightlifter Diaz. Boxers Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio  also got P5 million each for winning silver medals while Eumir Marcial earned P2 million for his bronze medal feat.

SENATOR RONALD “BATO” DELA ROSA Committee on Electoral Reforms and People’s Participation

PSR 902 & 903 – People’s Initiative

OPENING STATEMENT

Madam Chair, Senator Imee Marcos, dear colleagues, and to all our  resource persons: lsang mapagpalang umaga sa ating lahat.

I would like to thank Madam Chair, Sen. Imee Marcos for leading this Senate  inquiry to ferret out the truth on the alleged payoffs and misrepresentation in the  signature campaign for People’s Initiative. We also look forward to today’s discussion on the very important issue [of] the adequacy of R.A. No. 6735 as an enabling law for the constitutionally-established system of People’s Initiative as a means to introduce amendments to the constitution.

At this juncture, I would like to commend the COMELEC, led by Chairperson  Garcia, in suspending all their proceedings relative to the ongoing Politician’s  Initiative.

Public Order and Dangerous Drugs tungkol sa Ayuda Scam.

Sa Bisaya pa, “way ulaw, way uwaw.”

Pekeng inisyatiba. P. I., pansariling interes.

This is the part that is most painful, most unacceptable for me. For self-seeking individuals to capitalize on poverty, using it to their advantage,  advancing their ambition. We simply cannot let this slide.

Maraming salamat, Madam Chairman.
